Training days, AI bot pages, download pages, course modules. All of it locked into one page builder.

Moving them by hand was never going to happen. Say ten minutes a page if nothing went wrong, and nothing ever goes exactly right. That is roughly ninety four hours of copying, pasting and checking, and at the end of it you still have 567 chances to have broken a members only link.

So I had it built into the theme instead. Here is what actually happened, including the parts that went wrong, because those are the parts worth knowing about.

Watch it happen

<template>

</template>
This player sets marketing cookies. Loading it means you allow them.
Load this video

What moved

This is the count off the screen before I pressed anything. The tool reads your pages and tells you what is in them first, so you know what is at stake.

568 pages

588 videos and chatbots

562 members only locks

128 scripts

3,299 images

Every one of those came across. Not most of them. Every one. And every page kept the exact web address it already had, so no link I have ever sent out, in an email or a course or a Facebook post, stopped working.

How it works, start to finish

1. It shows you the list before it touches anything

A tab appears in the theme called Move In, and it only appears if you actually have page builder pages to move. It lists every one of them, what is on it, and whether it would come across whole.

2. You look at one first

Every row has a Look at it button. That opens the real page, at its real address, drawn by the new theme, with nothing saved and nothing changed. You are looking at the finished thing before you agree to anything.

3. You pick what moves

There is a tick box on every row, a box at the top that ticks all of them, and a separate button for moving the whole site in one go. That last one will not even press until you tick a box saying you have looked at some of them and you are happy. A button that changes five hundred pages should not be pressable by accident.

4. It goes in batches, and tells you where it is

Twenty pages at a time with a bar that moves. Mine read Moved 140 of 567, then Moved 540 of 567, and then it was done. Minutes, not an evening.

5. You can put every page back

This is the part that let me press the button at all. Nothing the old page builder saved is edited, renamed or deleted. Not one row of it. A moved page carries a marker, and while that marker is there the theme draws the page instead of the builder. Take the marker off and you are exactly where you started, down to the byte, even if you switch the new theme off entirely.

What it refuses to do

Before a page moves, it is counted. Videos, chatbots, images, scripts, members only locks and the words themselves, before and after. If the new version would hold less than the old one, the page is refused and left exactly as it was, no matter what you ticked, and it tells you which page and why.

I would rather be told that eleven pages need a look than be told all 567 went perfectly and find out in three weeks that a chatbot has been dead the whole time.

The things that went wrong

This is the honest part, and I am including it because every one of these was found by looking at a real page rather than trusting a number.

The columns vanished

The first version kept every word, every video and every lock, and still looked terrible. A grid of four cards arrived as one narrow column with half the screen empty. The page builder keeps its layout in its own class names, and those were being thrown away with everything else. All 1,593 rows on my site turned out to say how many columns they had, so nothing had to be guessed at.

Every download button turned into a line of text

1,362 buttons across the site came out as plain coloured text. That is the sort of thing a page of numbers will never tell you and one screenshot tells you instantly.

An emoji was mistaken for a logo

Pages built in a page builder usually open with a course logo, because the builder never drew a title. The theme draws the title and a trail above it, so that logo is the same thing said three times and it gets left behind. Except on pages that open with a line of text containing an emoji, because WordPress quietly turns an emoji into an image. The tool was removing the emoji and leaving the logo.

And then every page went blank

The worst one. I moved all 567 and every single page came out with a title and nothing else. Stopping the old builder from drawing a page is not the same as stopping it having an opinion about that page, and it was handing back an empty page on the way out.

Two things saved that. First, nothing had actually been lost, so one button put the whole site back while it was fixed. Second, it now has three separate floors under it: the old builder is taken off the content entirely, the theme puts the page back if anything still empties it, and if even that fails the page is rebuilt on the spot from the builder’s own data, which is never changed. There is no route left that ends in a blank page.

What it does not do

Worth saying plainly. It brings across your content and your layout: columns, buttons, videos, chatbots, images, members only locks and your words. It does not bring across every last colour and spacing choice you made inside the old builder. A section heading that had a coloured bar behind it arrives as a clean heading in your theme’s own style.

For me that is the point. I was moving off the builder so the pages would look like my site instead of like five years of separate decisions.

Questions people have asked me

Do my web addresses change?

No. Same page, same address, same ID. Only the thing drawing it changes. Nothing you have ever linked to breaks.

Can I undo it?

Yes, one page at a time or all of them together, at any point, because nothing the old builder saved was ever changed.

What happens to my members only content?

It stays locked. All 562 locks on my site came through untouched, and the audit refuses any page that would come out with fewer than it started with.

Do I have to do all of it at once?

No. Move one page, look at it, live with it for a week. The list shows you what has moved and what has not.

Do I need to keep the old page builder installed?

Keep it while you are deciding, because that is what makes undo possible. Once you are happy across the whole site, it has nothing left to do.

The honest summary

Five years of pages, 567 of them, moved onto a theme in minutes with every address intact and every video, chatbot and lock still working. It took several goes to get right and I have shown you the ones that went wrong.

If you are sitting on a members area built in a page builder you have fallen out of love with, you are not stuck with it, and you do not have to gamble your site to find out.

I had 568 pages inside my members area, every one of them built with Thrive Architect over about five years.
