The full ResultsAiX Theme can run your podcast on your own site: public shows that go out to Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and members-only shows that only your members can hear, each with their own private feed. Podcasts are in the full theme only, not in ResultsAiX Theme Free.
Where it lives:
A Podcasts menu in your WordPress admin holds Episodes, Add Episode, Shows, and Settings and help. The theme's own admin screen has a Podcasts tab as well.
A show:
A show is the podcast itself. Give it:
- A name and a description.
- Square cover art as its Featured image, 1400 to 3000 pixels, JPG or PNG.
- A category for the podcast apps, and whether it is explicit.
- Its Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube links, if it has them.
- Who can listen: Everyone, or Members only.
An episode:
Each episode has:
- Its audio: a file from your Media Library, or a link to a file kept elsewhere, such as Dropbox, Bunny or Amazon S3. The length is read from the file by itself.
- Its show, episode number, season and type: full, trailer or bonus.
- Who can listen: the same as the show, everyone, or members only with the levels you pick.
- Chapters, one a line, written as a time and what it covers, for example 12:40 What it covers.
- A transcript.
Members only:
Your ResultsAiX Membership levels decide who is a member, and a bundle that includes a level counts. With no level ticked, anybody signed in can listen. Without ResultsAiX Membership, members only means anybody signed in.
Members-only audio in your Media Library is moved into a protected folder and only plays through your site, for people who may hear it, and its address is never shown. A link to a file on another service also plays for members only, but because the file itself lives on that service, it cannot be locked away in the same way.
Feeds for podcast apps:
A public show has one feed address. Copy it from the show's edit screen or the Podcasts tab and give it to Apple Podcasts Connect and Spotify for Podcasters.
A members-only show has no public feed. Instead every member gets a private feed of their own on the My Podcasts page. One button on the Podcasts tab makes that page for you, or put the shortcode [raix_my_podcasts] on any page. Members get a Copy button and one-tap buttons for Apple Podcasts, Overcast and Pocket Casts.
- A private link stops working the moment that membership ends.
- A member who thinks their link got out presses Make me new links, and the old link stops working everywhere.
- Spotify does not accept private feeds, so members listen on your site or in another podcast app.
The player:
Add the Audio Player block, or a shortcode:
- [raix_audio episode="12"] plays one episode.
- [raix_audio show="3"] plays a whole show as a playlist.
- [raix_audio src="https://yoursite.com/clip.mp3"] plays any clip.
- [raix_audio attachment="45"] plays a file from your Media Library.
Options: look="card", "bar", "button" or "playlist"; accent="#ea580c" for its colour; download="yes" or "no"; title="Your title".
Every player has play, back 15 seconds, forward 30 seconds, and speed from 0.75x to 2x, which is remembered. It also shows chapters, and Share from 12:40 copies a link that starts at that moment. Pick up where you left off remembers the place on the device, and across devices for signed-in members. A download button shows on public episodes only, and the Podcasts tab can switch it off.
Episode pages:
An episode page gets the player at the top and the transcript underneath by itself. The transcript is folded away, and every time in it is clickable. Either can be switched off on the Podcasts tab. Visitors who land on a members-only episode see its title, its summary, Sign in, and Join when you have set a Join link on the Podcasts tab.
Stats:
The Podcasts tab shows plays, how far listeners got (half way, and finished) and downloads by podcast apps, for the last 30 days. They are counts only: nothing personal is kept.
Moving from Thrive:
The Move In page mover turns Thrive audio elements into the new player.
