Is Login Guard really free?
Yes. It is one of the six free ResultsAiX plugins, and its key is free too: just your name and email. See Getting Login Guard Free.
Do I need the key for my login to stay hidden?
No. The protection works whether or not a key is entered, and keeps working if a key ever stops being active. The key opens the Login Guard screens and is how updates reach your site.
Can I get locked out?
Not for good. There are four ways back: your inbox, the "forgot where to sign in?" page, your Dashboard, and one line in wp-config.php. See Forgot Your Login Address? Every Way Back In.
Does it change files on my server?
No. Nothing is renamed, no rewrite rules are written and nothing is put in .htaccess. Deactivate it and your site signs in at wp-login.php again.
Does it stop every attack?
It hides the door, so the robots that try passwords at wp-login.php all day find nothing. It is not a firewall and it does not count or block password attempts at your new address, so keep strong passwords on every administrator account as well.
Can my editors, members and customers still sign in?
Yes, at your secret address, which is the only address anyone can sign in at. Only administrators are emailed the address and only administrators can use the help page, so tell your other users yourself.
What happens to my existing login links, password reset emails and log out?
They all use your new address automatically. Logging out, lost password, password resets, registration and password-protected posts keep working exactly as before.
I already use another hide-login plugin. Will my address change?
If it is one Login Guard recognises, no: Login Guard keeps your address exactly as it is and switches the old plugin off for you. See Switching Over From Another Hide-Login Plugin.
Can I change my address later?
Yes, as often as you like, on the Settings tab. The old one stops working the moment you save, and every administrator is emailed the new one.
Can I switch the protection off without deactivating?
Yes. Untick Hide my login on the Settings tab and press Save settings. Your address is kept, and you can switch it back on whenever you like. See The Hide My Login Switch. The emergency switch in wp-config.php also turns the disguise off for a short while.
Does it work with Plain permalinks?
Yes. Your address is then written yoursite.com/?your-address.
Does the help page tell strangers who my administrators are?
No. It says exactly the same thing whatever email is typed, never shows the address, and only emails it to an administrator's own email.
Is my login address in the Diagnostics report?
No. The report never includes your login address, a password or a key, so it is safe to paste into a support ticket.
Does it work on multisite?
Login Guard is built for a standard single WordPress site, with its settings kept per site and no network-wide settings screen. If you run a multisite network, contact support before installing it.
Where do I get help?
Contact support at https://kevinfahey.org/contact-support/ and paste in the report from the Diagnostics tab.
