Updates:
Login Guard updates like any other WordPress plugin. When a new version is out, it appears on your Plugins screen and under Dashboard, then Updates. Click Update now and you are done.
Your login address and every setting are kept in your WordPress database, and an update only replaces the plugin's files, so your address stays exactly the same through every update.
Your free key:
Your free key is how updates reach your site. It covers 3 of your own sites and never expires. You manage it on the Settings tab, in the License panel at the top.
- Refresh License Info checks your key with the licence server and updates the list of sites it is used on
- Remove, next to another of your sites, frees that site's slot so you can use the key somewhere new. It does not switch Login Guard off on that other site.
- Deactivate This Site releases this site's slot on your key. The confirmation box explains that this frees this site's place on your key, and that your login address and its protection keep working exactly as they are. Only the Login Guard screens ask for a key again until you activate one.

Your site checks the key with the licence server once a day. If the server cannot be reached, nothing changes on your site.
If the key stops being active:
The Login Guard screens show: Your free key is no longer active. Re-enter it to change the settings. Your login address keeps working exactly as it is in the meantime. Your address is shown at the top of that screen too. Get your free key again with the same email, or paste your key, and the screens come back.
Messages you might see when activating:
- This license has no available sites left. Deactivate it on another site first. All 3 sites are in use. Remove one from the License panel on any site where the key is active, or deactivate it on a site you no longer use.
- License key not recognized. Please check your purchase email. Check the key was pasted in full, or use Get my free key and activate instead.
- Could not reach the license server. Please try again in a moment. Your site could not reach the licence server. Wait a minute and try again.
- Too many attempts. Please wait a minute and try again.
