Login Guard's emails are your safety net. They put your login address in your inbox so you can always find it again.
Who gets them:
Every user with the Administrator role on your site. The one exception is the help page email, which goes only to the administrator who asked for it. The emails are sent by your own site through WordPress's normal email.
When they are sent, and their subjects:
- When your address first goes live: when you first save one on the Settings tab, when you switch Hide my login back on, or when Login Guard takes over an address from another hide-login plugin. If Login Guard is switched off and on again with the same address every administrator already has, no new email is sent. Subject: Your login address for (your site name). It says Login Guard is now protecting your site and this is the address you sign in at from now on.
- When you change your address. Subject: Your login address for (your site name) has changed. It says the old address no longer works.
- When you switch Hide my login off. Subject: Your login for (your site name) is back at the normal address. It says the site signs in at the normal WordPress address again and that your hidden address is kept.
- When you press Email it to every administrator again on the Dashboard tab. Same subject and wording as the first email.
- When an administrator asks on the "forgot where to sign in?" page. Subject: The login address you asked for: (your site name). Sent to that one person only, with a note that if they did not ask for it, nothing needs doing: the address went to them and nobody else, and the site is exactly as it was.
What is inside every email:
- A Sign in button that opens your login page
- Your login address written out in full
- The address of the "forgot where to sign in?" page, with a reminder to keep the email
- The emergency line for wp-config.php, in case you are ever locked out completely
Keep one of these emails somewhere safe, such as a starred message or a folder. It is your key to the door.
Checking your site can send email:
- Open AiX Login Guard, Dashboard tab.
- Press Email it to every administrator again.
- The screen says Sent to every administrator. Check that it arrived, including the spam folder.
Next to the button, Last sent shows how long ago the address was last emailed. If your site could not send it at all, the screen says The email could not be sent from this site. Check Diagnostics, and keep the address below somewhere safe in the meantime. The Email from this site row on the Diagnostics tab shows when the last email was sent.
If the emails never arrive, your site's email sending needs fixing. That is a WordPress and hosting matter rather than a Login Guard one; many hosts need an SMTP plugin or an email service connected before WordPress email arrives reliably. Until it is fixed, copy your address from the Dashboard tab and keep it somewhere safe.
