Your own voice can narrate every slide. The free Results AI Voice Engine app runs on your own computer, learns your voice from a short recording, and narrates your videos in it. Your recording never leaves your computer and there is no per word cost. This guide takes you from installing the app to your first video in your own voice.
What you need:
- A Windows PC or a Mac. Apple Silicon and Intel Macs are both supported.
- About 8 GB of free disk space for the app and its voice model.
- A quiet room and a microphone. The one built into a laptop is fine.
- ResultsAiX Video open in your web browser on the same computer as the app.
Install the app on Windows:
- In ResultsAiX Video, find the Download For Windows button. It is in the voiceover part of the plugin's own training, and in the notice under the Voice menu when the app is not running. The installer is about 560 MB.
- Run the installer. The first time, Windows may show a blue box saying Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway. This only happens once.
- Open Results AI Voice Engine from the Start menu.
Install the app on a Mac:
- Click Download For Mac in ResultsAiX Video. It opens the Mac page, with one download for Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4) and one for Intel Macs. Not sure which you have? Click the Apple menu, choose About This Mac and read the Chip line.
- Open the downloaded file and drag Results AI Voice Engine into your Applications folder.
- The first time you open it, right-click the app and choose Open. If macOS still refuses, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. This only happens once.
Already have the earlier Mac version called Voicebox? Quit it first, install the new app over it, then drag Voicebox to the Bin. Your voices are kept.
Clone your voice:
- In the app, click Create Voice and give it a name, for example your first name.
- Choose Record and click Start Recording. Speak naturally for 10 to 15 seconds. Finish your last sentence, pause for a second, then click Stop Recording. You can also choose Upload and pick a clip of you speaking, such as a voice memo.
- Fill in the Reference Text box. It must contain the exact words you said in the recording, every word up to the last one, because the app uses them to learn your voice. The easy way is to click Transcribe and let the app type them for you, then read it through and correct anything it misheard.
- Save the voice.
Tips for a good voice:
- Record somewhere quiet, with no music and nobody else talking.
- Speak the way you want your videos to sound, at a natural pace.
- Aim for 10 to 15 seconds. Very short clips give the app too little to learn from.
- End on a full sentence and pause before you stop. A recording that stops in the middle of a word can make that word appear at the start of your lines.
- Not happy with the result? Delete the voice and create it again with a better recording.
Test it in the app first:
Before you go to your website, make sure the app can speak in your voice.
- Type a short line in the app's text box, such as: this is a test of my voice.
- Pick your voice and click the gold generate button at the right of the text box.
- Wait for it to finish, then play it back.
The very first time, the app downloads its voice model. That is a download of 3 to 4.5 GB depending on the model, which on a typical home connection takes around 10 to 20 minutes. It only ever happens once, so let it finish.
How fast will it be?
Speed depends on your computer. A Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, or an Apple Silicon Mac, narrates a sentence in a few seconds. On a computer without one, the app works on the processor instead. It still works, but each sentence can take much longer, which can look as though nothing is happening. Let your test line finish before judging it.
Narrate your video in your own voice:
- Keep the Voice Engine app open.
- Open Create Video in ResultsAiX Video, or reload it if it was already open.
- Open the Voice menu. Your voice is listed under My Voices.
- Pick it and click Generate Voiceover. Every slide is narrated in your voice.
As soon as you pick your voice, the builder asks the app to get it ready, so the first slide starts sooner. Once the first slide is done, the app is handed all the other slides at once and works through them by itself. You can switch to another tab or window while it works.
Slides that are already narrated are kept. If you stop part way through, reload the page or close it, open the video again and click Generate Voiceover: anything the app already finished is collected and nothing is made twice.
Two app settings you may notice:
You do not need to change any settings in the app. These are the two people ask about most.
- Keep server running when app closes is optional. With it on, narration still works after you close the app window. After you update the app, open it once: it replaces the older copy that was left running by itself.
- Allow network access should stay off. It only lets other devices on your network use the engine, and ResultsAiX Video does not need it.
If something goes wrong:
- Your voice is not in the Voice menu: make sure the app is open, then reload Create Video. On newer versions of Chrome, click the icon beside the website address, open Site settings, set Local network access to Allow, then reload.
- Every line starts with the same extra word, or part of a word, that is not in your script: the voice is repeating the end of your recording. Update the Voice Engine to the latest version, which fixes this by itself. If it still happens, record a new 10 to 15 second sample that ends on a full sentence, check the Reference Text has every word, then delete the old voice and create it again.
- The builder says the Voice Engine could not narrate a slide: it shows the app's own reason in its own words. Read it, it usually says exactly what to fix.
- It downloaded for a long time and then seemed to stop: the download only happens once. Run the short test line inside the app and let it finish. If the app itself cannot speak in your voice, send support a screenshot of the list of recent attempts on the right of the app.
- The builder says a clip took longer than it should: the app stopped that clip so the rest are not held up. Close the Voice Engine app, open it again, then click Generate Voiceover. Finished slides are kept.
- It worked before and now will not connect: an older copy of the engine may still be running in the background. Open the app, which replaces an older copy by itself, then reload Create Video. If it still will not connect, restart your computer and try again.
