AI is optional. Every other feature works without it, and until a key is connected the AI buttons stay hidden, with a one line note and a link to the AI tab in their place.
What the AI does:
- Writes challenger copy. In the editor, click a headline or button and press "Write 5 alternatives with AI". You can add a direction such as "more urgent" or "speak to beginners". Click a suggestion to use it. You decide what runs.
- Explains a report. On any report, press "Explain this test" under "In plain English" for a verdict, a summary, next steps and any caution. It reads the numbers in the table and is told to say wait when a test is too young. The latest explanation stays on the report.
- Suggests tests. On the Dashboard under "What to test next", choose a page and press "Suggest tests". It reads that page's scroll, click and frustration data and returns up to six ideas, each with a "Set up this test" button. A page needs at least 20 tracked visits first.
Connecting a key:
Open the AI tab. Under "Your AI providers" there is a card each for Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude and OpenAI, and each has a "How To Get Your Key In 60 Seconds" guide. The Gemini card carries a "Free Key Available" label, and its guide notes that no credit card is needed for the free tier. Paste the key, choose a Model, press "Save AI settings", then press the Test connection button on that card. One key is enough.
Routing and budget:
"Primary provider" can stay on "Auto (first provider with a key)". "Fallback provider (optional)" is used automatically if the primary fails. "Monthly soft budget (USD)" is a warning line only. In the screen's words: "When this is hit, AI features warn but don't block. Hard limits are enforced by your provider." The "Enable AI features" box switches everything off without removing your keys.
Usage:
"AI usage" shows Total jobs, Last 30 days, Spend (30d) and Errors (30d), with a list of recent jobs. Costs are estimates. Your provider's dashboard is the source of truth.
Your key and your data:
Keys are stored in your WordPress database and shown masked. Calls go straight from your site to your provider. What is sent is the text you selected, an excerpt of the page copy, or the test and heatmap totals. Individual visitor records are not sent.
