The Training tab calls this a two minute job. Allow five the first time.
- Press "New Test". Type a test name, for example the page and what you are changing. Leave "Kind of test" on the Element test.
- Choose the page. Click into "Page this test runs on", start typing the page title and pick it from the list. You will see "Page chosen. Save once and the live editor loads."
- Press "Save". The message reads "Test saved. It is a draft until you press Start test." The point and click editor now loads under the versions with your live page inside it.
- Make the change. In "Editing version" choose "Version B". Click the headline on the page, type the new wording in the "Text" box and press "Apply change". The change appears under "Changes in this version". Change a button or a price line the same way if you wish.
- Leave the defaults. The goal is "Any conversion" and the winner is picked by "Revenue per visitor (recommended)". If none of the supported sales or lead plugins is installed, pick a thank-you page, click or form goal instead, so there is something to count.
- Look at the Checklist in the right hand column: "A name", "A page", "Two or more versions", "Every challenger changes something" and "A goal". When all five are ticked, press "Save and start".
You land on the report with the message "The test is running. Visitors are being split right now."
Checking it yourself:
Logged in editors and administrators are never counted, so your own visits will not show in the numbers. To see a version, use the buttons under "Preview a version" in the builder, or the Preview link beside each version on the report. Previews are never counted. To see the test as a real visitor would, open the page in a private browser window.
What happens next:
The report fills in as visitors arrive. It tells you how many more visitors per version are needed and whether it is too early to call. With the defaults, a test needs at least 100 visitors per version, 7 days, and a leader at 95% probability before it is ready.
