The builder has four numbered sections: "1. What are you testing?", "2. The versions", "3. What counts as a win?" and "4. Traffic and the winner".
The three kinds of test:
- "Element test: change headlines, buttons, prices on this page". The page keeps its address and you change things on it with the point and click editor. Most tests are this kind.
- "Page test: show a different page at the same address". Build the challenger as a normal WordPress page in any builder, keep it published, and choose it under "Page to show instead". Visitors given that version see the other page at the same address.
- "URL test: send visitors to another address". Type the address under "Send visitors to". The query string, such as affiliate ids and UTM tags, is carried across.
Choosing the page:
Type in "Page this test runs on" to search your published pages, posts and other public content. For pages built outside WordPress posts, or to cover many pages at once, click "use a URL pattern instead" and choose "Exactly this address", "Starts with", "Contains" or "Regular expression". The live editor and preview links need one exact page, so they appear when you pick a page or use "Exactly this address".
Traffic and devices:
"Share of visitors in the test" runs from 1 to 100 and starts at 100. Visitors outside the share see the original and are not counted. "Devices" can be "All devices", "Desktop only" or "Mobile and tablet only". "Notes (for you)" is a place for your hypothesis.
Before a test can start:
The plugin checks the test and tells you what is missing, for example "Add at least one challenger version before starting.", "Choose the page this test runs on." or "The goal needs a value (a thank-you URL or a CSS selector)." An Element test needs at least one change in every challenger, a Page test needs a page for each challenger and a URL test needs an address.
While a test is running or paused:
You can rename it and adjust its rules. The kind, the page and the versions are locked, because changing them would mix two experiments. Pause, use "Reset results" on the report, then edit.
"Duplicate" on the Tests tab makes a draft copy, named with "(copy)", that you can change freely.
