The page grid on the generation panel is where you edit a book. Each card shows the page thumbnail, the page number and the page status.
Rerolling one page:
Hover a card and click Reroll. The page is reset to pending and an immediate regeneration attempt runs straight away, so a reroll usually feels instant rather than waiting for the next queue tick. The cron stays scheduled as a fallback in case the immediate attempt cannot finish in the request.
A reroll uses the same style suffix and the same locked character sheet as the original, so the replacement page still matches the rest of the book. Template pages have no Reroll button because there is no image to regenerate.
Editing the page text:
Story pages and activity pages carry a text line. On story pages that is the read aloud sentence. On activity pages it is the kid facing instruction. Both appear in an editable text box under the thumbnail with two buttons:
- Save Text: stores exactly what you typed. That wording is what gets printed.
- AI Rewrite: asks the writer for a better version of just that line, keeping the illustration and the story position unchanged. It needs a text AI key.
Why is the text not part of the image?
Story text and puzzle instructions are drawn as real text in the PDF layer, never baked into the artwork. That means the wording is always crisp at print resolution and always spelled exactly as you typed it, and it means you can edit the wording without regenerating the picture.
Failed pages show the provider error on the card. If a whole batch failed, test that provider's key on the Providers tab before rerolling, because an expired or rate limited key is the usual cause.
