The Build Export Files button on the Publish tab assembles the whole bundle in one pass and then shows a download link for each file it produced.
What you get:
- KDP Interior PDF, saved as interior.pdf. Your print manuscript, at 300 DPI with the correct trim, margins and gutter, including the automatically generated title page and copyright page.
- KDP Cover PDF, saved as cover.pdf. The wraparound cover sheet with the calculated spine.
- Digital PDF, saved as digital.pdf. The front cover image as page one followed by the complete interior, in a single file. This is the version to sell as a download, since the buyer gets a cover and prints at home.
- Pages ZIP, saved as pages.zip. Every finished page image as an individual file, numbered in page order, plus the cover image. Useful for social posts, previews and reuse.
Alongside the cover build, a front only cover image is written at 1600 pixels wide in the trim aspect ratio, with the title and author drawn on it. That image feeds the mockup canvas and is also handy for store listings.
Graceful degradation:
Only the interior is mandatory. If any other part fails, the export still completes and returns the rest with a warning explaining what was skipped. The most common warning is that there is no cover art on the project yet, in which case you still get the interior, a digital PDF without its cover page, and the ZIP.
The KDP upload checklist is rebuilt with every export and comes back pre filled with your own listing data, so the steps on screen show your actual title, keywords and file names rather than generic instructions.
Rebuilding after edits:
Exports overwrite the previous files for that book. After rerolling pages or editing text, run Build Export Files again before uploading anywhere, otherwise you will upload the older version.
