🏷️ The KDP Listing Kit And Metadata

The listing kit is on the Publish tab. It reads your actual project, the book type, the premise, the character, the page count and the trim size, and writes the metadata to go with it. It needs a text AI key.

What the kit returns:

  • Three title options, in Title Case
  • A benefit led subtitle
  • An HTML description built from an opening hook, a paragraph on what is inside and a closing call to action, using only simple paragraph, bold, line break, italic and list markup
  • Exactly seven keywords, because that is exactly how many keyword slots the upload form gives you
  • Exactly two category paths, written as real browse paths with arrow separators
  • An age range, an adult range for journals and planners
  • A fixed AI content disclosure reminder, which is not AI written

Every field gets a copy button so you can paste it straight into the upload form.

Why are the keywords written that way?

The kit deliberately avoids repeating words that already appear in your title or subtitle, since those are already indexed, and it writes two to four word buyer search phrases in lowercase rather than single words. It is also instructed to avoid competitor names, other authors' names, and claims about price, ranking or availability, all of which cause listing problems.

The description is sanitised before it is stored, so only the simple markup the kit was asked for survives. Anything else is stripped.

Where else does the kit get used?

The saved description is reused as the back cover blurb when the wraparound cover is built, and the saved title, subtitle, keywords, categories and age range are used to pre fill the upload checklist. Generating the kit before you export therefore gives you a better cover as well as better metadata.

You can regenerate the kit as many times as you like. The button changes to Regenerate once a kit exists, and the new kit replaces the old one.
