Results AI Search understands your categories and other taxonomies, so you can be precise about what gets indexed and how results are organised.
Limit a type to certain categories:
On the Content Sources screen, any content type that has categories shows a collapsible category filter under its row. Tick one or more categories to index only items in those categories. Leave every box unticked to include the whole type, which is the default.
This works with your post categories and with any hierarchical taxonomy a custom type uses, such as product categories.
Group results by category:
Open Settings and find Group Results By. You have three choices:
- Content type: results are grouped under headings like Pages and Posts. This is the default.
- Category: results are grouped under their category name instead
- No grouping: one flat list, ranked purely by relevance
Limit a single search bar to certain categories:
You can also scope one specific search bar without changing your site wide settings, using the categories attribute with category slugs:
- [results_ai_search categories="traffic,email"]
That bar then only ever returns items from those categories, which is perfect for a search box sitting inside one section of your site.
After changing a category filter on Content Sources, click Save and Re-Index so the index matches your new rules.
