🔁 The Search Index And When To Rebuild

Results AI Search does not search your database directly every time someone types. Instead it keeps its own compact index of your content, which is what makes results appear instantly even on very large sites.

The index updates itself:

Whenever you publish, edit, trash or delete a piece of content, that single item is updated in the index straight away. For everyday work you never need to think about it.

When you should rebuild by hand:

  • After you change which content types are switched on, although saving Content Sources rebuilds automatically for you
  • After importing or migrating a lot of content
  • After a bulk edit made directly in the database
  • After updating the plugin, if it asks you to
  • If results ever look out of date

How to rebuild:

Go to Dashboard and click Rebuild Index. You will see a confirmation showing how many items are now searchable.

Reading your Dashboard:

  • Items Indexed: how many pieces of content are searchable
  • Content Sources On: how many types are switched on
  • Excluded Items: how many items you have hidden by hand
  • Last Rebuilt: when the index was last built in full

If Items Indexed is zero, either no content types are switched on, or the index needs building. Both are fixed from the Dashboard and Content Sources screens.
