Conditional logic keeps forms short. A field only appears when an earlier answer makes it relevant.
Setting it up:
- Save the form once first. A field has to be saved before a rule can point at it. Until then it shows greyed out in the rule's list.
- Open the card of the field you want to control and tick "⚡ Conditional logic".
- Choose "Show this field" or "Hide this field".
- Choose "when ALL rules match" or "when ANY rule matches".
- Build each rule: pick another field, pick a comparison, type a value. Use "+ Add rule" for more, and ✕ to remove one. Removing the last rule switches logic off for that field.
The seven comparisons:
is, is not, contains, greater than, less than, is filled, is empty. The last two need no value, so the value box is switched off for them.
How matching works:
- Upper and lower case are ignored, so Yes matches yes.
- "greater than" and "less than" compare numbers, which suits Number and Star rating fields.
- A Checkboxes answer is read as all the ticked options together, so use "contains" to test for one of them.
- Rules can watch any field that holds an answer, including Hidden fields. HTML blocks and Section breaks hold no answer, so they are not offered.
- Every field type except Hidden can be shown or hidden, including Section breaks and HTML blocks.
Examples:
- Show "Company name" only when "Are you a business?" is Yes.
- Show "Tell us more" only when the rating is less than 4.
- Hide the phone field until the email field is filled.
Required fields and logic:
A field that is hidden by its rules is never checked and never blocks the submit, even when it is marked Required. A required field only counts while it is showing.
Checked again on your site:
The rules run in the visitor's browser as they answer, and your site checks the same rules again when the form arrives. Any answer sitting in a field that should have been hidden is discarded, and a required field that should have been showing must be answered. Nobody can skip a question, or slip extra answers in, by tampering with the page.
Deleting a field that rules depend on:
When you delete a field, any rules on other fields that were watching it are removed at the same time, and the builder tells you how many. Check those fields afterwards: a field whose last rule was removed is no longer conditional and always shows.
Spotting logic at a glance:
Cards with logic switched on show a ⚡ on their header, so you can scan a long form and see which fields are conditional. When you duplicate a field, its rules are copied with it.
