Two settings turn one survey into a smart conversation: questions that only show when an earlier answer matches, and answers that are saved the moment they are given.
Only show a question if an earlier answer matches
Under any question except the first, tick Only show this question if. Pick an earlier question, then tick the answers that should lead here. Everybody else skips straight past it.
That is how one survey becomes several paths. Ask "Do you use WordPress for your business?" first. Show the plugin questions only to Yes and "Not yet, but I plan to", and a different set of questions only to No. Each person only ever sees the questions that fit them.
- The rule can point at any earlier choice, checkbox, yes/no, star or score question. Tick several answers and any one of them opens the question.
- Rules chain. A question hidden from somebody also hides every question that depends on it.
- The question count and the progress bar follow each person's own path, and the last question on their path becomes the Send button.
- Change an earlier answer on the way back, and answers to questions that no longer apply are dropped, never stored.
- Moving questions around keeps each rule pointing at the same question. A rule that ends up pointing at a later question is cleared, so nothing is ever hidden from everybody by mistake.
Save answers as they go
In the builder's Opt-ins and Routing step, switch on Save every answer as it is given. Every answer is then saved the moment it is given, not just when somebody presses Send.
- Somebody who answers two questions and closes the tab still shows up on the Responses screen as Didn't finish, answered 2 of 7, with the answers they gave.
- Responses gains a Didn't finish count and a Finished or not filter, and the CSV export gains a Finished column.
- When they come back in the same browser tab and finish, the same response is completed. They never appear twice.
- People who arrived from one of your emails (the survey link carries their email) are tagged in ResultsAiX Mailer as they answer, from your routing rules, even if they never press Send.
- Tags for anyone who starts is added after their first answer. Pair it with your finishing tags to follow up only the people who started and stopped.
- Your always list and tags, the new-response email, a membership level and the webhook all wait for Send, exactly as before. Your response total counts finished responses only.
It is off unless you switch it on, so existing surveys keep working exactly as they did.
Tip: put the question that matters most first. With saving switched on, the first answer is the one you always get, so make it the one that decides what happens next.
No limits on real people
There is no cap on how many responses come in, or how many come from one address. A big email send can bring in hundreds of answers in an hour and every one of them is taken. Bots are still kept out by the hidden trap field and the too-fast check.
