🚀 Getting Started And How It Works

WP Conversion Tracker is a self hosted link tracker for WordPress. It records clicks, leads, sales and revenue in your own database, so no third party tracking service sits in the middle and you keep all of the data.

What The Plugin Actually Does:

Every tracking link you create is a short URL on your own domain, for example yoursite.com/my-offer. When somebody clicks it, WCT records the click, stores a click ID in a cookie, appends wct_click_id to the destination URL, then redirects the visitor. Later, when that person opts in or buys, a pixel or a server postback sends the click ID back and WCT joins the conversion to the original click.

The Four Step Tracking Flow:

  1. Create a tracking link on the Create tab, for example yoursite.com/my-offer.
  2. Send traffic to that link so the click ID is set before the visitor reaches your funnel.
  3. Fire a lead or sale pixel on the thank you page, or wire up a server to server postback.
  4. Review the numbers on the Dashboard, the Links tab, or the per link Stats page.

Key Terms You Will See Everywhere:

  • Click ID: the unique number assigned to each click. It is the glue that joins a click to its conversion.
  • Lead, also called Conversion A: a conversion with zero revenue, such as an opt in, a signup or a free trial.
  • Sale, also called Conversion B: a conversion with revenue above zero, such as a purchase.
  • Postback: a server to server callback that sends click_id and amount from a payment platform back to your site.
  • Pixel: a small JavaScript or image snippet placed on a page that fires a tracking request from the visitor's browser.

Where Everything Lives:

The plugin adds one WordPress admin menu called WPC Tracker. Inside it you get the Dashboard, Create, Links, Folders, Tracking, Conversions, Settings, Diagnostics, Training, Resources and Hub tabs. Add on plugins insert their own tabs into the same row, and add ons you have not installed appear as locked tabs that link to the upgrade page.

A Quick First Test:

Create a link, open a private or incognito browser window, click the link, then load a page that contains the lead pixel. Refresh the Dashboard and the lead should be there. If nothing appears, start with the Diagnostics tab and the FAQ article.
