🧲 Smart IPN Re-Attribution

If you mail your list often, you have probably seen one old link collect sales it did not earn. The buyer clicked a lead magnet link months ago, the cookie is still alive, and today's promotion gets no credit. Smart IPN Re-attribution fixes that at the point the sale arrives.

What It Does:

When a sale IPN arrives, WCT also checks the buyer's recent click history, matched by email, IP address and user agent. If that person clicked a more recent WCT link than the one the payment gateway reported, the sale is credited to the recent click instead.

Where To Configure It:

Settings tab, then the 🎯 Smart IPN Re-attribution card.

The Master Switch:

Enable Smart IPN Re-attribution. It is enabled by default because the stale magnet link problem is so common. Untick it if you would rather keep the gateway's reported attribution exactly as sent.

Re-attribution Strictness:

  • Strict. Re-attribute only on an email match. Fewest changes, highest confidence.
  • Standard. Email match, or IP plus user agent match. This is the recommended setting.
  • Lenient. Email, or IP plus user agent, or IP alone. Maximum coverage, but shared IP addresses can produce the occasional false positive.

Lookback Window:

How far back to look for a more recent click. The original click must be older than this window before it is treated as a stale magnet candidate, which stops the feature interfering with normal same week buying journeys.

Minimum Age Gap:

If the candidate click is within this many hours of the click the gateway reported, attribution is left alone. Those two clicks are almost certainly the same buying session, for example a visitor who clicked, browsed, came back and bought, or an upsell firing minutes later.

What Is Never Re-attributed:

Recurring subscription rebills. They always stay credited to the original signup link, so your recurring revenue reporting stays consistent.

Auditing What It Changed:

Every re-attribution is logged in the conversion record's meta. On the 💰 Conversions tab, re-attributed rows carry a purple re-attribution badge, and hovering it shows the full audit tooltip with what moved and where it moved from.

Tuning It:

Start on Standard with the default window and gap. If you see credit moving in ways you do not agree with, tighten to Strict or lengthen the minimum age gap. If stale links are still hoarding sales, widen the lookback window or move to Lenient, then watch the badges on the Conversions tab to confirm the changes look right.
