Some people should never get a broadcast. People who told you they have no interest, people who already own the thing you are selling, people who are part-way through an automation. Remembering to exclude them on every single broadcast is exactly the kind of job that gets forgotten once, and once is enough to annoy them.
Always leave out does it for you.
Where to find it:
Open Settings and scroll to Always leave out of broadcasts. It uses the same audience builder you already know, but only the remove side: every rule you add describes people to leave out.
What you can use as a rule:
- A list, for example a "Not interested" list
- A tag
- A product, or a product group such as your bundle owners
- In an automation, for example anyone in any automation right now
- Engagement, for example anyone who has not opened in months
- Any other audience filter the builder offers
The screen shows how many people your rules leave out right now, and what each rule matches, before you save.
When it applies:
The rules are checked at the moment each broadcast sends, not when you write it. That means broadcasts you scheduled earlier obey your newest rules too. Automations are not affected; this is for broadcasts only.
Seeing it on each broadcast:
On a broadcast's Audience step, under the recipient count, you see how many people your account-wide rules left out of this send, with the rules written in plain words and a link to change them.
Sending to them anyway, once:
Sometimes one broadcast really should reach everyone, for example an important account notice. Tick Send to them anyway, this broadcast only. The count updates straight away, and every other broadcast keeps obeying the rules.
A good starting set:
- Your "not interested" lists or tags.
- Nothing else until you have a reason. Every rule quietly shrinks every broadcast, so add rules you are sure about.
