🧱 Building A Custom Audience

The audience builder sits inside the broadcast composer and decides who receives the email. It is more flexible than simply picking a list.

How it is put together:

An audience is made of include rules and exclude rules. Someone receives the email if they match the includes and do not match any exclude.

A worked example:

  • Include: the Newsletter list
  • Include: the segment "engaged in last 90 days"
  • Exclude: anyone who already bought the product you are promoting

That sends your launch email to engaged newsletter readers who are not already customers, which is usually exactly who you want.

The live counter:

Every time you change a rule, the recipient count updates, along with a small sample of the addresses that match. If the number looks wrong, you know before you send rather than afterwards.

Viewing the members:

Click View members to open the full list of people in that audience in a new tab, using the normal Subscribers screen with all its columns and sorting. This is the safest final check before a big send.

Product based rules:

If the Launch Manager add on is installed, you can include or exclude by product purchased, which is how you send "everyone who bought product A but not product B" in a couple of clicks. Refunds and chargebacks are excluded automatically.

Suppression always wins:

Regardless of your rules, anyone on the suppression list, meaning unsubscribed, bounced or complained, is never included.
