When someone is in the middle of an automation, a broadcast on top of it can feel like too much email, or can say something that clashes with what the automation is about to tell them. The In an automation filter lets you decide.
Adding it:
In the audience builder, add the filter In an automation. Choose is in or is not in, then choose Any automation or pick the automations you mean.
Choosing what counts:
- Right now (waiting included). The default. People currently moving through the automation, including anyone sitting on a wait step.
- At any time. Anyone who has ever entered it.
- And finished it. People who reached the end.
- Entered in the last N days. Anyone who joined it recently, whatever happened next.
Examples:
- Leave out anyone in any automation right now, so a promotion never lands in the middle of someone's welcome series.
- Mail only the people who finished your onboarding automation with the next offer.
- Reach people who entered your launch automation in the last 7 days with a reminder.
Where it works:
The filter works in the broadcast audience builder, the live recipient count, the send itself, saved segments, Always leave out rules, and the AI audience box, so you can simply write "everyone except people in an automation right now".
