Where a list is a group people are put into, a segment is a group defined by rules. Segments update themselves as people's behaviour changes.
The AI segment builder:
This is the fastest way to build one. Type what you want in ordinary language, for example "buyers in the last thirty days who did not open my last three emails", and click Translate to rules.
The AI returns:
- A proposed name for the segment
- The filter rules it produced
- A live count of how many people match right now
- A sample of matching email addresses
- A confidence score
If the result is close but not right, click Refine and describe the change, for example "only United States" or "exclude anyone who bought the advanced course". When you are happy, name it and save.
Saved segments:
Saved segments appear in a table with their member count and when they were last refreshed. Each one can be used as the audience for a broadcast with a single click.
What you can filter on:
Segments can use engagement data such as opens, clicks and engagement score, plus tags, country, source, signup date and list membership. If the add ons are installed, purchase data and pre computed buyer segments become available too.
Asking AI for suggestions:
The AI Studio tab includes an auto segment feature that looks at your audience and proposes segments you might not have thought of, based on real engagement and spending patterns.
The AI Segment Builder understands the full audience toolkit:
Describe any audience in plain English and the AI builds it with the complete filter set: email opens and clicks with exact time windows, engagement scores, join dates, lists, tags, countries, sources, custom fields, purchase history, spend, buyer types, and combinations with include AND exclude conditions.
With WP Conversion Tracker installed it also understands real site click activity. "Anyone who clicked a link in the past 120 days" uses your full tracked click history, any window you like.
The AI is grounded in your actual data: it sees your real lists, custom fields, countries and sources, so it uses real values instead of guessing. And it is honest. Anything it cannot express precisely is flagged with a warning on the result instead of silently giving you the wrong audience. Always read the explanation line before saving, it describes exactly who the rules select.
Editing and deleting saved segments:
Every saved segment in the table has Edit and Delete actions. Edit loads the segment (AI-built ones included) into the visual audience builder with its rules ready to adjust, and the save button becomes Update so it overwrites in place. Delete removes just the saved definition, never your subscribers.
